Simple raag, but a fascinating one as the name indicates. An audava, audava ( five notes in both ascending, descending scale) raag having enormous scope for elaboration and various kinds of compositions (Geetham, Varnam, Kritis, Thillana, Javali, any thing you say). Janda, dhatu usages beautify the raag.

Apart from Sa, Pa (constant notes), R2 G2 Dha2 are coming in this great raag.

When I want to teach alapanai first the time to a student, I take up Mohanam.

In the concert platforms, this raag is frequently used as one the main stuff. A tri-stayi raag. Upper octave usages give a great lift to the raag.

In fact, all swaras are used as flat ones, mostly without gamakas (shaking of notes), a unique feature of this raag.

Very pleasant raag. Saint Tyagaraja has used this raag very effectively.. Mohana Rama (see the wording) is a real gem for the raag itself.

Music has been sole cause of great souls.
