It was an evening.
The Speaker was ready to address the students of that school. In fact, he had been preparing himself quite some time, so much excited. The school had invited him to be the chief guest for that special function.
The Organizers had arranged a car to pick him up from his house. He was rehearsing and referring to some books for the speech, in the car he travelled.
The car landed in front of the school gate and the Head Master and other senior teachers were there to receive Mr. Kumar, who was the chief guest and would have to address the students.
The stage was well set in the school complex. Students were sitting in front of the stage. Slight breeze started moving sideways and making the arena very pleasant.
On seeing the Speaker, the students also welcomed happily.
Mr.Kumar, before landing the stage itself ,was curious to address the students, who were in good dresses.
Gladly Mr.Kumar told the HM that he would like to address such a nice gathering before doing any thing.
The Head Master Mr. Pramod told Mr.Kumar that he can first present the gifts to all the students gathered there and then give his speech.
The speaker kept on saying that he would give his speech first and then would go for presenting the gifts.
Teachers and HM failed to convince the Speaker.
The speaker went on with his speech adamantly for an hour or so, expressing his views about studies.
The highlight of the speech was that the students should read with full understanding of what is being studied. He put up an example - I hear most of the students would, for the purpose of memorizing the subject , read and repeat very louder. They would keep reading louder and louder one effective sentence ' Silent reading is a good habit'. And if you just think about it, you are actually doing the reverse meaning of that particular sentence. He enjoyed his speech and laughed. He noticed that the students were not laughing. He felt that they did not like that particular joke.
Like this, the speaker indicated features about good reading.
The students were neither clapping hands and not even nodding their heads.
Got irritated, the Speaker just went back to his seat. Now he asked the HM why they were behaving so badly.
The HM said cooly that he had repeatedly requested him to present the gifts first. The HM further told the speaker that the function was to present hearing aid machines to the hearing impaired students and that's why they were unable to listen and enjoy his speech.
The speaker realized his mistake and presented the gifts wihtout any further speech. In fact, Mr. Kumar had not gone through the invitation properly.
On reaching his house, his wife asked him about the function. He just laughed and gave her the gift presented to him.
